2021 JMYAC Details Announced

The Music Guild of New Mexico’s Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition announces that during this time of uncertainty, 27 talented young musicians have auditioned and been accepted to perform at this year’s event.  The Music Guild sponsors this competition for young artists, providing a showcase for their talent and perseverance.

Thanks to the generosity of the Robertson family, we have expanded the event to two days to allow the entire 2021 class to perform.  Because of concern for the health and safety of our performers, judges and volunteers, the Competition will be live-streamed without an audience via YouTube on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, 2021, from the recital hall of Robertson & Sons Violin Shop.

The piano competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with four competitors.

The string competition will begin at Noon on Friday and continue throughout the afternoon.  On Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. the remaining string competitors will continue the music.

Awards will be announced Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. A total of $10,000.00 in cash prizes will be awarded. First prize in each division is $2,500.00 and a possible performance opportunity with the New Mexico Philharmonic. Second prize in each division is $1,500.00. Third prize in each division is $1,000.00. Other prizes may be available.
