Popejoy Youth Concert

United States

Popejoy Youth Concerts are back!

Every fall and spring over 17,000 4th and 5th grade students attend live concerts presented by the musicians of the NMPhil in Popejoy Hall on the UNM campus.  These concerts are a continuation of a 50 year plus tradition developed by the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and are the first live classic orchestral concerts attended by most of the students. Over 95% of the teachers surveyed said their students enjoyed and valued the experience.  Guild volunteers have a long history of helping thousands of students to Popejoy Hall for a special concert.  We need six volunteers each day.

The New Mexico Philharmonic will perform for APS fourth-graders on

Tuesday 18 and Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 10:00am and 12noon.

Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:00 am and 12:00 noon

The parking garage just east of Popejoy Hall, is the most convenient place to park. There is a pay station.  Plan to be in Popejoy Donor’s Lounge by 8:45 a.m.  Guild volunteers have a long history of helping thousands of students into Popejoy Hall for a special concert. Here’s what to expect...It’s easy.

  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • It will be a beautiful fall morning with children’s voices filling the air; meeting other Guild members and enjoying the MUSIC.
  • Two 45-minute performances each day at 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. The buses begin to arrive about 9:00 am for the 10:00 concert.
  • All the buses seem to arrive at the same time. A rush of excited kids!
  • Volunteers are strategically placed along the path to help guide students to Popejoy Hall where the ushers are waiting to take them into the concert hall.
  • Once the students are seated, we can relax and enjoy the concert.
  • After the concert, the students are released by their schools.
  • As the morning buses pull away, the 12:00 buses begin to arrive and we prepare for the next wave of students. Volunteers may once again stay to listen to the concert. or how about Frontier for lunch?
